This past weekend I was in my hometown of Philadelphia for our friend’s black tie (optional) wedding. One of the most common questions I get from you all is what to wear for a [________] (fill in with type of wedding details) wedding? I often struggle answering this question because there honestly is no right answer. These days you will see such a variety of looks at weddings, both traditional and much less so (for example, I was at a black tie wedding several months ago and my favorite look was a chic midi skirt paired with a crop top). For anyone else who may have been under the same misconception as me, black tie also does not require a long dress; cocktail dresses work as well.

When I spotted this French Connection sequined maxi dress I knew it was the answer for this particular wedding. The sheer overlay with intricate beading and cap sleeves was far from anything I have worn before. It allowed me to feel elegant and glamorous, but not too over the top. I kept all accessories to a minimum and wore my hair up as I often do at weddings – to allow for ample dancing of course (Taylor Swift, “Shake it Off” is still stuck in my head…)
